Actually Roland is right, our problem isn't with MUAs but with internal
hosts relaying through our main mail server.

MAXPERIP=1 (or 2) makes sense with SMTP on small servers.
Spammers jailed in the teergrube cant connect many times
simultaneously which would render the logs unreadable.

But this is very short for hosts sending lots of mail,
such as internal forwarding between two servers or any
host which sends more than a couple of mails per hour.

There are some imap-implementations which use only one
connection per open folder.
