Good morning. We're using Courier-IMAP for our pop3 and imap services,
and, while they're delivering mail to the users, the imap server is
creating several files in the user's maildir. Here's an example:

drwxrwxrwx 10013 mail mail 172032 Jun 20 18:04 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5907 Jun 21 08:38 courierimapuiddb
drwx------ 2 mail mail 12288 Jun 21 08:29 cur
drwx------ 2 mail mail 12288 Jun 13 10:08 lock
drwx------ 2 mail mail 12288 Jun 21 08:29 new
drwx------ 5 root root 4096 Jun 21 08:09 .sent-mail
drwx------ 2 mail mail 4096 Jun 21 08:38 tmp
drwx------ 5 root root 4096 Jun 21 08:38 .Trash

Now, I know the imap server needs to create said files, and, I'm
perfectly comfortable with it doing that, however, I need them to not be
created by root. I'd basically like courier to not run as root at all,
once the daemon is loaded. I've ran through the config files backward
and forward, and I am either not seeing the location to specify
user/group to run as, or it's not there.

I've also tried to chmod +s the imaplogin program, however that didn't
do anything. The maildir writing is occurring somewhere else, most
likely. I'm rather unfamiliar with the internal layout of Courier, as I
was not the admin who installed the system. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

I'm not at liberty to take it down and rebuild it myself unless I can do
it very quickly, rather than experiment and try to figure it out; it's
on a production machine, which would affect customers if it were down
for long.
