Periodically, perhaps once every couple weeks, and for seemingly no
reason, the following starts happening with sendmail:

  karmak@antidote$ echo "To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]" | /bin/sendmail
sendmail: ERR: submitclient: EOF from submit.
  432 Service temporarily unavailable.
  sendmail: Unable to submit message.

When this starts happening, it also affects webmail. The same
432 error above will be shown in a big red font when trying to
send mail through webmail.

The band-aid solution I've found is to pipe something to sendmail
*as root*. Unlike the output shown above from a regular user, this
does not fail under the root account, and seems to give sendmail
the kick it needs to start working again.

In other words, after running the command shown above one time as
root, all users are suddenly able to pipe to sendmail again, and
there is no more problem sending mail through webmail.

I just saw this again tonight, and I didn't think to get an trace
before I fixed the problem. When it happens again--a couple weeks
maybe--I'll post more info. In the meantime, any suggestions?

m.
