To fix it, back up your mail queue, and the configuration files in the etc subdirectory, rm -rf /usr/lib/courier, and run 'make install', then 'make install-configure' in order to revert to a sane install.
Afterwards, manually go through all configuration files that were saved from the older install, and manually reenter any changes you've made to the configuration files. Do not copy the previous configuration files over the new ones.
