Hi,

We have a POP3 service which is running today qmail POP3 and i'm trying to replace this soft by courier pop3d. We are using LDAP to store users informations and NFS (NetApp Filer) to store maildir data. And we have ~300k users.

I have no problem to compile and install the version 1.6.1 with LDAP support and all works fine except... the load average of this new station.

Our serveur are a mix between old SGI Origin200 with Irix 6.5 and new Compaq DL360 with RedHat 7.3/Kernel 2.4.18-19.7.x.

If i'm compare two SGI, one running Qmail POP3D and the other running Courier POP3D 1.6.1, each in production with 100-110 connection each, i have :

Qmail POP3D :
IRIX64 vercors 6.5 IP27 load averages: 0.86 1.13 1.19 13:13:43
98 processes: 97 sleeping, 1 running
2 CPUs: 58.9% idle, 16.3% usr, 23.9% ker, 0.0% wait, 0.0% xbrk, 1.0% intr
Memory: 1152M max, 878M avail, 733M free, 1024M swap, 1024M free swap

Courier POP3D :

IRIX64 maupassant 6.5 IP27 load averages: 55.41 59.31 70.62 13:05:57
149 processes: 146 sleeping, 1 zombie, 2 running
2 CPUs: 0.0% idle, 23.8% usr, 45.8% ker, 22.8% wait, 0.0% xbrk, 7.6% intr
Memory: 1280M max, 877M avail, 706M free, 1024M swap, 1024M free swap

The problem is the same that i'm using authdaemon/authdaemond.ldap or authldap directly. And servers configurations are the same.

1:19pm up 21:42, 1 user, load average: 163.20, 152.54, 149.14
281 processes: 280 sleeping, 1 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU0 states: 4.1% user, 2.3% system, 0.1% nice, 92.3% idle
CPU1 states: 5.1% user, 4.3% system, 0.1% nice, 89.3% idle
Mem: 2064880K av, 2048124K used, 16756K free, 0K shrd, 74940K buff
Swap: 2097112K av, 0K used, 2097112K free 1779524K cached

I have the same problem under linux, except that today i can't compare with qmail POP3D:

Any idea ???

Tks
