I have Maildirs with huge number messages (25-75 thousands).... Can I get to 10.000? 50.000? 100.000? Any hints about the Linux machine that would support this kind of load? What tweaks should I make to the fs? Should I use Reiser instead of ext3?
I have this on p200 with kernel 2.4 and XFS.
You should avoid ext2/ext3 because of performace.
Also ext 2 has constant number of inodes.
I suggest you XFS, however ReiserFS could be good.
Since beggining I have no problems with XFS at all.
Before them I was testing ReiserFS and after crash
and data lost I "forgot" about those option.
However to be honest - it happens years ago, now
ReiserFS could be good enaugh.
