I then downloaded the tarball in hope that I could locate then there, however my effors seems to be in vain, as all I could find was file enfind in a .in extension.
The configuration files are supposed to be generated at install time, by 'make install-configure'.

The precompiled package you tried to install is broken.

Remove it, then follow the instructions in INSTALL.
