Oops, RTFM solved the problem:

I just used the "..set imappw" to set the IMAP password but I completely
forgot to issue also the "..set pop3pw" for POP3, i.e.:

# userdbpw | userdb "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" set imappw
# userdbpw | userdb "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" set pop3pw
# makeuserdb
