I'm a recent graduate from UW-imap, na dhave been running mailservers for
a while. Here's the setup:
Redhat Linux 7.3
courier-imap-1.6.2-1.7.3
postfix-1.1.7-2
procmail-3.22-5

I'm also running squirrelmail and Mailman on the system, but they are not
affected.

I have a number of domains that I admin, and have recently added a few
more to the server. Since adding those, quite a few number of users have
been reporting that they are getting a number of duplicate messages when
downloading their mail via either pop3 or imap.

Because courierimap seems to work well out-of-the-box, I didn't make any
changes to the config files.

I just ran some tests where I created an account on M$ LookOut Express of
one of the affected users. I ran send/receive and dl'ed maybe 20 files,
most of which were duplicates of 3 of them. I then ran send/receive a few
more times with no further dl's. I checked the logs and
/var/spool/mail/$user and $HOME/Maildir/new, both of which were set to 0.
On a hunch, I re-opened Lookout Express and successfully dl'ed a few more
duplicates *_from an empty Maildir_*.

Is it possible that procmail might have something to do with this? The
only reason I'm using procamil is for a sanitzing script, but if it's
causing problems, it's gotta go. I used this same script for a couple
years on the old UW -enabled server with no problems, so I don't suspect
it's related. The only difference between this system and that one is
courier-imap.

Has anyone else seen this happen or know how I can go about tracing the
cause and fixing it?

TIA

Keith Mastin
