nsswitch.conf looks pretty much like every other one I've ever seen

passwd: compat
group:  compat
hosts:          files dns
networks:       files dns
services:       files
protocols:      files
rpc:            files
ethers:         files
netmasks:       files
netgroup:       files
publickey:      files
bootparams:     files
automount:      files nis
aliases:        files

There may not supposed to be any *nss*.so files, but as I've seen on a few
other distros there are there as sym links.  A holdover from older glibc?
Recent Slackware and RHs both symlink the nss files, as do older SuSEs.

And symlinking them allowed the mysql_connect detection to proceed.  As I'm
about 8 hours behind on this install, I'll figure it out later.
