Right, but there's a fix.

Yes, many as it's been discussed too many times to count recently. The
archives will have all this

Certainly not.

A couple options, considering this is something affecting vpopmail:

Try latest 'development' vpopmail as they only advertise 5.2.1 as being
stable, but they're up to 5.3.something.

Try not using authdaemond:

../configure --without-authdaemon --with-authvchkpw

The second is not recommended by Sam, but I found it worked fine, as have
many others.
