I'm having the same client auth issues that Keith described back in
December (below). I am able to send messages to local users from the
command line (echo "To: user" | /usr/lib/courier/bin/sendmail), but only
as long as the "authpwd" module is enabled. (I assume that this is
because the server must verify that the account exists before delivering
the message, which makes sense.) Even so, I cannot authenticate from an
email client to any of the servers. I receive errors indicating an
invalid username or password.

I'm starting Courier using the example script from INSTALL, and
authdaemond is running.

I've tried authenticating from the client with both "username" and
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and there is no change.

I'm running Slackware 8.1

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jerome

Hello all,

I have just installed Red Hat 8.0 and Courier 0.40.1. I compiled
courier just using ./configure with no options ran make, make check,
make install and make install-configure and encountered no errors. Went
through the configuration procedures for IMAP, ESMTP and POP3. I am able
to send msgs to local users (echo "To: user" |
/usr/lib/courier/bin/sendmail).

The problem is when I try to login, I get back the message "Invalid User
ID or Password". I get this error no matter what kind of client I try
(imap, pop3 or webmail). I have no idea of where to start looking for
the solution. I'm sure it's something with authdaemond but not sure what
it could be. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Keith
