I am using authdaemond.mysql. The database schema recommended in the authlib/README.authmysql.html document suggests that the crypted and clear password fields be 128 characters. Does the mysql auth module not really support passwords larger than 8 characters?
This has nothing to do with the authentication module itself, but with the password encryption method. Standard UNIX crypt() encrypts no more than 8 characters, so passwords are limited to 8 characters. As I said, md5-hashes support longer passwords, so if you want to support longer passwords you'll need to use md5-hashed passwords.
