You can make entries in the /etc/courier/userdb file like
list uid=root|gid=root|home=/root/Mailing-Lists/list|mail=/root/ Mailing-Lists/list/Maildir
And set up the mailing list in /root/Mailing-Lists/list/list
But how do you properly setup the .courier files? Can I just put the following files in /root/Mailing-Lists/list ?
.courier
.courier-owner
.courier-default
Also do the mailing lists need to have the mail= option in the userdb entry? With the .courier files as I described, mail would never make it to the mail dir.

Can anyone suggest a way to setup a bunch of mailing lists to be managed by the root user, or even one regular system user as long as the list email address doesnt need to be prefixed by username?
Use the userdb authentication module.
