Is anyone else seeing connection timeout entries in the mail.log regarding inbound smtp connections from yahoo webmail mail servers?
A friend reported problems sending email to me from their yahoo mail account. While investigating (they sent mail messages while I tailed the logs), I saw lots of the following log entries: Jul 11 20:27:37 taylor courieresmtpd: started,ip=[::ffff:66.218.78.110] Jul 11 20:28:43 taylor courieresmtpd: started,ip=[::ffff:66.218.78.110] Jul 11 20:31:22 taylor courieresmtpd: started,ip=[::ffff:66.218.78.103] Jul 11 20:34:12 taylor courieresmtpd: started,ip=[::ffff:66.218.78.104] Jul 11 20:37:01 taylor courieresmtpd: started,ip=[::ffff:66.218.78.104] Jul 11 20:37:37 taylor courieresmtpd: [::ffff:66.218.78.110]: Connection timed out A quick DNS lookup tells you that they are all yahoo webmail servers: web40413.mail.yahoo.com. web40407.mail.yahoo.com. The problem seems intermittent. Messages I send to myself using my yahoo mail account seem to come straight through to my mail server (buberel.org). The mail.err logfile contains no information regarding these timeout problems. I am using courier 0.42.2 on debian stable. I do not have ESMTP over TLS or Message Submission Protocol enabled for inbound ESMTP. Most other mail deliveries appear to be working just fine. My mail server is VERY LOW traffic (basically just my wife and I, including spam, less than 100 messages a day). The server machine is not overloaded at all. Average load is 0.20. Is anyone else seeing these problems? If not, what are the recommended next steps for troubleshooting this problem (turning on debug output, for example?).
