In almost all situations I've encountered like this, it either a) not top-notch modem on your end b) software isn't set up properly for the modem you /do/ have What kind of modem do you have? I've had good luck with the US Robotics / 3Com PCI 56K modem. I can't recall the model # but it's OEM'd to quite a few others. It's obviously a "regular" modem and not a "Win" (aka "controllerless") modem. Honestly, the first thing I would do is get EFax up and running. I've had much better luck with it for diagnostic purposes because it is /really/ simple and almost always works very well. If efax shows a problem, mgetty+sendfax will probably run into it. -- No more monkey ducks, jumping on the bed!
