On my RedHat system, "info courier", then "/From:", put me to to the exact passage quoted above...
I get "Search failed.".
My point was that why are these things, (which are clearly important to a running server), listed somewhere as a 'files you should create when installing courier'. It's not even in the install file.
Short of recieving a bounce because a server rejected the email address '<@>', there is nothing I can see, that tells the inexperienced user to set this.
