  As a sysadmin, using your trash folder for storage is a problem.  We force
trash to be purged every 30 days.  The best practice that we subscribe to is
that if you think you might need a copy, then archive it locally
(preferable) or in another mail folder.  The trash is really like a trash
can.  You wouldn't store copies of documents in a trash can because the
cleaning crew (that would be me in my house) will empty it.  You would put
them in a filing cabinet.  I would suggest to you that email folders are the
same, and that simply adjusting your procedures might address the problem...
