I'm going to go out on a limb and ask if that's because of the way the
client is moving the files (i.e. a copy and deliete instead of a move) is
that possible?

If that is what's happening, then there is probably no way to change it's
behavior, but if it is the move instruction (assuming one exists - remember,
I AM out on a limb here) then that would be something that could be
corrected if it doesn't cause a problem with other stuff.

I've seen what you are talking about and addressed it by telling people
"don't move stuff if you want to preserve your order" - but if there is a
better way....

So:

Q: Is there a move instruction in IMAP?
Q: Is this move instruction being used and renaming the message as it moves?
Q: If so, can it be changed to keep the original file name?
