Hello,
I can create folders under Inbox. But I want to create a folder on the same
hierachical level like the Inbox. My MUA refuses that. Is this a fault of the
MUA (Kmail 1.5.2) or the IMAP Server (Courier-Imap most recent). Do I have to
change config options on the server side?
Thanks,
Florian

The FAQ *clearly* states that Courier doesn't support this. -- It's the 2nd question under the IMAP heading.

That's a perfectly valid choice for Courier's author, because IMAP servers can implement folder namespaces in any structure that is convenient for them.

But if it really bothers you, look for a config option with your MUA that will handle the situation. Your MUA might be able to be configured to *show* first-level sub-folders of INBOX as being outside the INBOX. Although they won't actually be there.

For instance, I can set up an IMAP account in my client (Mac OS X's Mail.app) with a default namespace (IMAP Path Prefix, is what Mail.app calls it) set equal to "INBOX". Then it will show all folders created inside the Inbox, like INBOX.ListMail for instance, as being top-level folders. -- They're not, but it knows they're as much "top-level" as they can be on that server, so it displays them as being at the same level as the Inbox anyway.

Your client might be able to do the same thing, if you find the right setting. -- Of course, not all clients support that kind of folder intelligence though. Speak to someone familiar with your client, if you're not sure whether yours does or not.
