I setup Courier Imap using authuserdb virtual mappings along with Postfix .
It seems to work well but I wanted to be able to sparate the UID/GID maps from
just one single set to having each domain have its own UID/GID for all users
per domain, its easy to do in postfix via its virtual_uid_maps
virtual_gid_maps mapping tables, but I found that this can't be used with
Courier Imap and authuserdb, authuserdb seems to work only by having all of
the domain/email accounts under a single uid/gid

I tried changing the uid vid mapping in the mapping file of authuserdb and
changed the owner ship of that domain/user maildir to see what happens and it
just doesn't work, even tho a valid uid/gid account exists in /etc/passwd.

home=/home/vmail|mail=/home/vmail/domains/example-com/john|systempw=$1$dRxAMjqn$cLnUJ9dbn4dc46MHheJy11|gid=12608|uid=12004
As far as I can tell those gid/uid mappings at the end of the line are just to
help courier imap look up the master gid/uid thats used for all domains and
maildirs and its in one sense kind of pointless.

What I was hoping some one would say is that "yes" there is some secret config
switch I can put somewhere in courier imap that makes this behavior come a
live, btw I do run courier-imap as root (which seems to be default)

Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks
