My first post was similar, I couldn't authenticate.

I think MrSam would say "build the RPMs"!

I hate to subscribe to a list and have the first thing I post ask a
question, but I've read docs, googled, and asked on IRC, to no avail.

First off, I'm trying to put together a Postfix-courier-mysql server for
virtual domains/users. I'm running a RH9 box, with standard RH MySQL,
Postfix compiled from source (to get MySQL support) and courier compiled
from source.

I'm basically an old hand at email and MTAs, etc., although this is my
first time trying courier.

First off, my understanding from the docs and the INSTALL readme was
that MySQL support was native - in order to get it working, I'd just
need to edit the authmysqlrc file (I haven't gotten there yet). So I
used the default build configuration. I could have missed something in
the docs I read, so I was wrong, please let me know. Also, if using RPMs
is better, please let me know.

I wanted to simply test how courier worked just authenticating off of
/etc/shadow first, before I dove into getting it hooked up with MySQL.

So.. First off, when I do /usr/lib/courier/libexec/authlib/authdaemond
start, I get no error, but I get no processes either. There is no
process in my list that looks remotely like authdaemon...

When I start courier, I get the regular expected group of courier
processes.

I've tried the perf test, and the mail just goes nowhere - with the
error that the user (that I created) was unknown. Further, I started the
pop3d, and can't get external pop for an existing mail account to
authenticate.(The maillog just says "LOGIN FAILED"). And besides the
error messages about specific bounces, there are no other error messages
in either the maillog or messages that give me any clues to the problem.
At one point, when I was trying to modify the authdaemonrc file, and I
tried to restart authdaemon, I'd get a AUTHFAILURE message, but again no
error in any logs.

BTW, postfix works fine to send and deliver mail.

So what am I doing wrong? Thanks for any ideas.
