This is a message that does not point out a bug, but a feature that could be dangerous in special situations. I hope to help others that might run into the same hell that we did.
Keywords: mailman, migrating mailman from 2.0 to 2.1, makealiases, multiplication of messages, duplicate, deffered, xalias, aliases, infinite loop, bug. 1) Using aliases with courier It is very important to read the makealiases man page available on the courier-mta.org website: http://www.courier-mta.org/makealiases.html, especially if aliases are used in an extensive manner, for instance with lists, in occurence mailman. 1.1) ATTENTION: makealiases uses all text files in its alias folder. This means that if you have a file named 'whatever.old', it will load aliases from it. 2) Mailman aliases and migrating from 2.0 to 2.1 The wrapper program changed - was called 'wrapper' (2.0) and renamed 'mailman' in 2.1. It is thus necessary to change all of the aliases. Mailman also needs more aliases for mailing lists to work. Since Mailman also needs a list called 'mailman' in 2.1, I suggest creating it and looking at the aliases that are shown, then fixing all of the other aliases to match alike. 3) My error I put aside the old alias file by renaming it system.old and created a fresh and new system alias file. The makealiases program concatenated the two aliases for the email address for all lists, the old and the new one. Aliases looked like : mylist: |/var/mailman/.../wrapper post mylist mylist: |/var/mailman/.../mailman post mylist Message bounced because of the bad wrapper alias and where rescheduled by courier...in somewhat of an infinite loop. Everytime there was an attempt, the good alias succeded and sent the messages to all of the list users. Still, it was resceduled. Obviously, list users complained using the list. In some way, I hope this message never helps anyone ! -- Eric Pare for/pour LexUM [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ courier-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/courier-users
