We have a courier mail system in which the ESMTP module is configured to allow relay for local IP's only.
We would like to be able to allow relay for authenticated remote users. However, if we turn on authentication, we can't receive email from foreign smtp servers, they receive a "authentication required" message.
What is the correct configuration required for this set up?
The default configuration. Nothing needs to be done. What you did was require that ALL incoming connections authenticate. That's only required for MSA, on port 587.
Authentication is always enabled. You can verify that by connecting to your port 25, and issuing an EHLO.
