You have permission problems too. You cannot build it as root.
I'm not. I've done this before with 1.6, and tried with 2.1.2.
You have to create a user for courier.
I'm building it as an Administrative user, but not as root.

I've already followed those steps, except for the MySQL stuff, since I won't be using that database for storing user info, but ... everything else is done.
Ultimately if "make check" pulls up problems in smaptestsuite.txt, you can still go ahead and install it.
So it's done at this point? That's a bit scary. But I guess that's what test systems are for.
I'm doing this on my laptop behind a firewall prior to getting my Cube ready to upgrade to Panther.
