I would like to try and send whatever mail is queued on one server from my own devel box so I rsync'd /var/lib/courier (on Debian) to my box and restarted courier locally but my local copy does not seem to acknowledge the imported mail queue files from the other server. "mailq" itself does indeed show the files on board but courier flush will not move them.
What else might courier-mta be looking at to determine what messages in the queue are really there or not ?
The inodes. The names of files in the queue are based on their inodes. You cannot copy/rsync the mail queue because the inodes will not, obviously, be preserved.

You can't. For all practical purposes, the copied mail queue is corrupted.
