OK, finally tracked it down. Its a nss_ldap-bug.
See http://bugzilla.padl.com/show_bug.cgi?id=154 I commented out everything in ldap_nss.c (from fedora core 1 source rpm) as when HAVE_SIGPROCMASK would have been not defined. Then I rebuild and installed the patched rpm and now i get no more SIGPIPE - errors.
