mailq doesn't work.  Rather, it works perfectly.  When run by root it
indicates that a message I (a mortal user) sent is 'owned' by the user
that courier has been installed as. I know something is wrong, I just
don't know what!

This would be the case if the mail client being used submits the message via an SMTP connection to localhost, instead of running the sendmail command.
