No. The problem is that software depends on non-necessary libraries.
I *do not* need imap/ssl or pop3/ssl.

Courier requires OpenSSL. To compile you need the headers. I've been
watching this mailing list for around 9 months, and you're the only
person who's asked for this dependancy to be removed. I, personally,
find the out-of-the-box SSL versions really useful, I can do secure
connections whenever I like. I have never found a reason not to use
SSL whenever I can.

I'm assuming you're not representative of Courier's user base, so I
really doubt that the requirement will be removed. Especially because
the developer has already said install OpenSSL twice.

Maybe you are right about few people not wanting ssl support, maybe not.

About two things I'm sure you are wrong:

As far as the installation instructions at
<http://www.courier-mta.org/install.html> are concerned, Courier ISN'T
dependent at OpenSSL:

"7. *OpenSSL*

Support for SSL/TLS requires OpenSSL. If OpenSSL is not installed,
SSL/TLS features are disabled."

You might argue that my english isn't that good but I doubt there is
other understanding of the above quoted text but: "If you have OpenSSL,
you got SSL/TLS, if you don't have, you won't got SSL/TLS" which implies
I should be able to install Courier without OpenSSL. That's what Dmitry
is trying to do and is what I would like to do also. And there could
easily be an option to tell Courier that.

The other point where I'm sure you are wrong is that Dmitry isn't the
only people which complained about this issue in the last 9 months in
this list as I did a month or so ago. How many more have you not noticed?

Thanks for your attention,

Rodrigo
