Hello,

I have installed courier 0.44.2 on gentoo Linux.
It seems, that webmaild doesn't detach from the
terminal.

If I do this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/> ssh -l root -X 192.168.10.10
[EMAIL PROTECTED]'s password:
Last login: Mon Feb 23 10:13:34 2004 from
192.168.10.20
vacuum root # /etc/init.d/courier start
 * Starting Courier mail server:...
 *  Starting courierfilterd...
 *  Starting authdaemond...
 *  Starting sqwebmaild...
 *  Starting courierd...
 *  Starting esmtpd...
 *  Starting esmtpd-ssl...
 *  courier-imapd...
 *  courier-imapd-ssl...
                                                     [
ok ]
vacuum root # exit
logout

the terminal hangs, until I execute
/etc/init.d/courier stop
over another ssh connection.

That the problem is really the sqwebmaild can be
verified with:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/> ssh -l root -X 192.168.10.10
[EMAIL PROTECTED]'s password:
Last login: Mon Feb 23 10:46:23 2004 from
192.168.10.20
vacuum root # /usr/lib/courier/courier/sqwebmaild
start
vacuum root # exit
logout

... the terminal hangs again, until I execute
/usr/lib/courier/courier/sqwebmaild stop
over another ssh connection.

Courier is great. But I am still not familiar enough
with it to know how the "detach from terminal" is
implemented in the other daemons (courierfilterd and
authdaemond are detaching from the terminal).
As a workaround I will put a "nohup" for sqwebmaild in
some start script.

Sincerely

Jan
