MSA stands for "Message Submission Agent" (MSA), runs on
port 587 and is documented in RFC 2476. Port 25 is used
for the "Message Transfer Agent" (MTA). Basically you need
to run both for a fully compliant modern mail system.

The Abstract of http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2476.html has
a good explaination on the reasons behind MSAs.

However one area that the RFC politely avoids is the masses
of bugs in MUAs (mail clients) that result in non-compliant
messages being passed to MTAs :-)

You should also configure your mail clients to use port 587
for SMTP sending instead of the default 25.

Cheers.
