Hi,
when we were educated about M$ Exchange (M$ seminar) we were told that
it is tightly integrated with Outlook and that Outlook's primary task is
to function as a Exchange client. We have asked about other protocols
and were told IMAP in Outlook has buggy implementation and that M$ wants
to fix it in the next version. Well - it was Outlook 2000 then ... ;)

To answer your question directly - Outlook doesn't work with IMAP. If
you will try to work with it, it will collapse. :(

Regards,
David.
