Well, at any rate, we've got problems with sites like hotmail.com.
So we've got a couple possible solutions:
1. Create a new version of BOFHCHECKHELO that is even looser than the
current version. This one would also accept mail from smtp.foobar.com
if the SMTP HELO command was 'HELO foobar.com'. There are other
2. Get hotmail.com, amazon.com, and friends to fix their SMTP HELO text.
Hah. Right. Good one.
3. Maintain a list of popular 'broken' sites. I've just started adding
/24s for every hotmail server which shows up in the logs so far:
Here's what I've got so far:
# Hotmail just says 'HELO hotmail.com'
64.4.16 allow,BOFHCHECKHELO=0
65.54.251 allow,BOFHCHECKHELO=0
65.54.245 allow,BOFHCHECKHELO=0
# Amazon.com
207.171.172 allow,BOFHCHECKHELO=0
# Google
# what is jproxy.google.com, anyway?
216.239.56 allow,BOFHCHECKHELO=0
Isn't there a site where you can find out what netblocks are owned by a
particular company? Is that on netcraft.com? I couldn't find it the
last time I looked.
4. Give up on BOFHCHECKHELO. I'm not willing to do this yet.
