I am using the same (identical) client device for both accounts. This device (Qtek 
2020) runs PocketPc 2003 and has no virusscanner capabilities.

In order to isolate the problem I used the account that actually is working, and 
changed the SMTP servername and the login information. I can then see the error as 
before. This makes me believe the solution to the problem is to be found in the 
courier configuration. 

I also took the account that is NOT working and modified the SMTP server and 
account/login definitions to the pther server, and now that one is working.

So one courier-mta let me in and one does not.

Is there an (easy) way to compare the config between two servers ?
Is there any other help I can get from the list ?

You need to disable the broken virus scanner on this client.
