They come in occasionally from spammers...

Well, probably yes, still there are occasional occurences of legacy systems that proxy from behind a UUCP gateway that may use a generic address of the from [EMAIL PROTECTED], and legacy sendmail boxes replace all but the last @ with %, so there is a slight possibility that this might be a valid address.
