What about a generic logging interface? That way, one could write another logging module that generates log messages in the desired format, or even log to an SQL database.
This can only work if the existing code uses some sort of a formal, structured, logging framework. It doesn't. It's just a bunch of free-form messages. Most of them do have a vaguely-similar structure, but it's really nothing more than free-form messages whose superficial consistency came about only as a result of mental discipline.
