I have installed Courier onto a Debian system, using the
Debian packages
that come with Sarge.
When I send a simple email, using the ESMTP part of Courier,
it delivers
that message into a mbox format file called Maildir in the
user's home
directory. If I create a proper maildir in the user's home directory
first, and then I get a message:
How are you creating the "proper maildir"? Are you using the
maildirmake command?
Using maildirmake ~/Maildir while logged in as upayavira.
[date] colinux courierlocal:
id=xxxx,xxxx,xxxx,from=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,addr=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,
maildir.open: ./Maildir: No such file or directory: No such file or
directory
[date] colinux courierlocal:
id=xxxx,xxxx,xxxx,from=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,addr=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Any ideas what is going on here? I can give more details, but I'm not
really sure what to share.
How are your users specified? Are you using system accounts, or virtual
users?
System accounts. I did install courier-ldap, but then uninstalled it. I
know the user authentication is working, as using the wrong password on
webmail gives me a different error!
What user is the mail daemon running as,
It was all set up by Debian package manager.
authdaemon: root
courierd root
courierlocal root
couriersmtp daemon
courierd daemon
courierdsn daemon
and does it have
permissions to your Maildir?
It has permissions to create a Maildir _file_ in my home directory, so
it would therefore have permissions to access my Maildir directory,
wouldn't it?
Are you sure you're creating the Maildir
in the right place?
Yes, because creating ~upayavira/Maildir changes the behaviour of the
courierlocal daemon - without any Maildir folder it creates a Maildir
file, and with it it fails to deliver the mail (with the No such file or
directory error).
Sorry I don't have more answers, but these questions might help you get
on the right track.
Thanks for the help. Does any of this give you any further ideas?
Thanks in advance.
I hope this helps. Good luck,
Thank you.
Regards, Upayavira
