Does anyone know why all the sudden I am starting to see authdaemond.plain: pipe: Too many open files
and what would be the corrective fix? I mean can I just put a ulimit statement in one of the courier startup files?

No, something is leaking file descriptors. You did not say what authentication module you're using.

Sorry about that, I am using authvchkpw
vpopmail 5.4.0
courier-imap-3.0.5-1.8.0

Well then, vpopmail is leaking file descriptors here. I don't think this is the current version of vpopmail, so try upgrading, and check on the vpopmail mailing list.

Thanks, inter7's page was out of date, I see on sourceforge there is newer versions

According to http://www.inter7.com/?page=vpopmail
