Are your users using Outlook Express by any chance?

There is a known problem with OE where the pop3 download dies if it
comes across a message with an empty body.  There was a bunch of
discussion on the list about this problem not too long ago.  There is
not an official solution, but there was at least one patch posted to
add a line to the end of the email to avoid the problem.

Personally, I just find and delete the offending emails when they
show up.
