Actually, "Unexpected SSL connection shutdown" does tell you that their SSL implementation is not 100% kosher.
This message is issued when the peer shuts down the network connection without doing a proper SSL shutdown sequence.
There isn't any actual negative impact from that - it's more of a debugging message - it's just an indication that the other guys have done crossed their t's and dotted their i's in this particular situation, so it's also fairly likely that they might've missed a detail, or two, someplace else.
Is Courier perhaps failing to send a <CR> in this particular context?
