OK.  I just now removed that setting and restarted Courier.  Let's see

Well, I think that there is a way have all of the pieces of a
multi-component package re-use the system-specific configuration
settings that are determined in the intial "configure" step in the
topmost directory.

Of course, I don't know enough (yet) about autoconf to actually set this
up.

But maybe I'll try to make some time to investigate this.  If something
like this could be done, it could literally save hours on many systems
for each "configure" that is run.
