Thanks.  Both systems are running gentoo linux, which just recently
updated to 0.48.1 (from 0.47).  Rebuilding the current version on both
systems has resulted in  the ipv6-style logging on both.  The default
configure options must have been changed sometime recently in the gentoo
package -- maybe there is a USE flag I can set to withhold ipv6.  Anyway,
thanks for the root solution.
