This is correct.  We have our own web mail front end.  We have multiple web
servers in a load-balanced cluster and multiple IMAP stores as well.  Front
what I recall, sqwebmail accesses maildirs directly as opposed to using
IMAP.

But back to the original question....  If I wanted to add this logic into
courier-authlib, where do you think I should do it?  Basically, I want to
find the right spot to intercept the user password, check for the prepended
string, and treat the account appropriately depending on whether or not I
see it.  If you were to do such a thing, where would you do it?
