Thanks again. Response is quite good here on the Courier mailing list! I'm compiling the rpms right now from the full tarball.
I extracted the full tree, edited courier.spec to read just 'netpbm' instead of 'netpbm-source' and packed the lot again to tar.bz2. Thanks to Eugenio Ruivo for this tip! Lets see what that brings. The separate IMAP tarball doesn't give a separate POP3 rpm. But I listed the produced IMAP rpm and that seems to contain the pop3d server/daemon. Any chance that the dependancy on netpbm / netpbm-progs gets removed or replaced?
