This messages means that the problem isn't with the authentication but
with the maildir.  So this might be a silly questions, but have you
created a maildir for each user with the correct permissions?? And set
the location of the maildirs in the config file??

Because if there is no maildir courier does not allow you to log in
even if the usrname and pw is correct.
