Hi there,

Seems like my problem is a lot different than I thought...

When I try to start esmtpd with courier/sbin/esmtpd start.. Nothing happens, no
error no log messages no nothing.

Nothing should happen, except the daemon process starting in the background.

What led you to believe that you should expect to see some output?

If I try to start courier/sbin/courieresmtpd start, I get the following error :
sbin/./courieresmtpd: don't know your IP address, no dice.

Right. Quoting INSTALL:

The commands courierfilter start, courierfilter stop, esmtpd start, esmtpd
stop, esmtpd-msa start, esmtpd-msa stop, pop3d start, pop3d stop, imapd
start, and imapd stop (all commands are installed in the sbin directory)
are used to start or stop their respective daemons, and they should be
added to your system startup and shutdown scripts, where required. If, instead of executing these commands, you take some other random binary, and try to execute it, don't be surprised at the results of the experiment.

Is this some kind of local DNS error or something like that..?

No, it's not.

I have tried to look at the configuration files again, and I do not seem to be able to find anywhere, where I kan define the mailserver IP address...

Everything you need to do is described in INSTALL.
