Hei og hei! (in Norwegian, that's my lingo, "amen", in English). Unfortunately I don't see this happening while Gates and Balmer are still alive, look at their record (and increasing profits).
However, at this site (1150+ users) we're running a 95% LTSP/mail/LDAP RHAS4/3 Linux shop (4 IBM 32-bit e-series servers) with the 5% Windows w2k workstations (+/- 80 machines) completely dependent on Samba. We could never have done it on any Windows OS; I (all mail, LDAP, general sysadmin) do almost all - including X GUI - admin from home. But that's thanks to the unusually enlightened (high school) administration who hired us to effect it. There ain't many of that kind around here in Holland.
