I don't remember making any major changes to this server since the last reboot. It's quite possible that there is something messed up with the glibc install, but unless it has happened recently, which I doubt, it doesn't affect the ability of the server to boot. Based on all of the responses, it looks like I'm stuck with this version of courier until I can rebuild the server.
