I'm surprised too -- you're the first one to report something like this in many years.

Check your syslog for any error messages about I/O errors.

This error was at home, but given that I work for an email hosting company that uses Courier, I wanted to get to the bottom of this.

I noticed that the error only ocurred when "trying to move" an email. I deleted all my filters from Cone. Then added them one, by one.. found the 2 folders having problems deleted them and re-ran maildirmake. The folders HAD a valid structure, but my guess is that something was corrupted.

What would help significantly is, if both Courier and Cone reported to what folder the email is trying to be copied. Both programs have the information, so why display a generic message when you could have "Could not copy to folder <abc>"

In particular it was a bit missleading to have "No such file or directory" in the error. Ever since Mr Sam Varshavchik suggested it was a missing folder.. I went folder by folder and confirmed that all directories were there.. the problem was corrupted files/directories... not missing ones.

I should have kept the directories for further analysis though. :-(
