Are you installing from source, or just building the RPMs from source?

The recommended installation path for Courier on RedHat and Fedora is
to download the tarball and build your own RPMs from them.

I really like this setup because:

(a) I can make modifications to the source if I need to
(b) I can still use the RPM utilities to handle prereqs and upgrade
    issues.
